An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George VI English sterling silver and agate handled presentation trowel in the Art Deco style - boxed; an addition to our diverse presentation silverware collection. This exceptional antique George VI sterling silver and agate presentation trowel has a triangle, angular shaped blade in the Art Deco style.

The anterior face of the blade features an extended angular border embellished with bands of tooled decoration. The ornamentation to the blade incorporates the contemporary engraved presentation inscription. Presented to The Right Honorable The Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne, Alderman Gilbert Oliver, J. Upon Laying the Foundation Stone for the New Artillery Barracks, 7th July 1938. The reverse of the blade is plain and unembellished, apart from the featured hallmarks.

This sterling silver trowel retains the original fine and impressive carved hexagonal agate handle and embellished with a chased decorated stylised leaf decorated bolster in addition to a plain hallmarked hexagonal terminal. This impressive antique trowel is fitted to the original hinged leatherette presentation box with satin and velvet lined interior, securing with a push fit catch. The interior of the box features some staining, in keeping with age, but can be considered to be in excellent presentation condition. The engraved and tooled decoration is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of the blade have wear due to their location and in keeping with age, but remain legible. The lion passant mark to the terminal of the handle mount is clear.
