It stands approximately 6 1/4 inches tall, and it has a maximum width of about 6 5/8 inches. Unpacked, this heavy pot weighs 2 pounds 10.9 ounces. There are affixed dot pads beneath, as found. This would be a fine addition to a collection of European art pottery. Identification This vase is unsigned Gilbert Metenier pottery from Gannat, France.There is something cryptic incised beneath, but it is not a name (see center of base in Photo 4). Metenier pieces are known to be unmarked sometimes. Per Divine Style French Antiques, Metenier 1876 -? Took over his father's pottery factory in 1920.
He produced pottery there until 1939; in 1940, Metenier destroyed his molds to prevent the German occupiers of France from taking them. Not long after this, he disappeared. This vase is vintage, but the exact age is not known.
Condition This piece looks great overall, with no chips or cracks. It has very light wear. Variations in glazing are as made.Some glaze bubbles and a glazed-over, very small, raised dot are also as made. Payments must be received within three days of the end of the listing, unless prior arrangements have been made. And international government regulations prohibit such behavior.
